NFL Award Predictions
NFL AWARD PREDICTIONS
MVP
Lamar Jackson is by far the player most deserving MVP. He ended the year top 5 in rushing yards, shattered the rushing record for a QB with 1206 yards. He also totaled 42 touchdowns, 36 of which came from passing. There is not any other player you could really make a debate for. Jackson also led all QBs with a minimum of 20 passing attempts in TD% and has the highest single season approximate value, beating out the likes of 07′ Brady and 13′ Manning. Lamar led his team to the first seed after starting 2-2 and did not lose until the Divisional Round against arguably the hottest back at the time in Derrick Henry. Lamar all in all had a monster season, and he sat down many haters.
OPOY
The OPOY to me is RUN CMC, aka Christian McCaffrey. CMC had an astonishing season with over 1k in both receiving and rushing yards. Such a feat us most hard, an accomplishment only done by 2 other NFL players, ever. Putting that into perspective, CMC was one of the sole reasons the Panters won any games, and you cannot deny the fact that his prowess alone put fear in all defenses. Notable stats: 4th in catch %, and had over 1000 yards after catch
The only other player I can see an argument for is Michael Thomas, but I think his play this year was massively overblown.
DPOY
TJ Watt secured DPOY for this year. He led a top tier defense that almost propelled a team to the playoffs. He finished the year 4th in sacks, 2nd in forced fumbles and dumble recoveries, 9th in tackles for loss, had 2 interceptions, where only 6 other LBs had more. Stephon Gilmore seems to be getting all the hype right now, but personally I don’t see it. The only real defining distinction he had from other top tier CBs this year is his ballhawk skill, which is by no means not amazing. But his impact otherwise is extremely similar to other players in the NFL, and there were other defensive backs who impressed just like him, none may have been stride for stride with him but surely you do not think Minkah Fitzpatrick is far away from his ability.
OROY
Josh Jacobs snags this award. This year was rather lackluster, but there were a lot of bright spots in DK Metcalf, AJ Brown, Terry McLaurin, and Kyler Murray. But none stood out from the two best in the class so far, Miles Sanders and Josh Jacobs. Personally I would choose Sanders, but Jacobs was far more consistent throughout the year and was 7th in rushing yards. Sanders was close and showed a lot during Philly’s playoff push, but he shared the ball a lot to start the season. While it doesn’t hinder consistency, he just has less overall stats to back up his case. His impact nonetheless was important to the Eagles, and his role was more crucial. Jacobs just overall had a season that is going to propel him. I want Mieles to win, but Jacobs is by far going to win due to his game to game success.
DROY
The next Bosa brother is here, Nick is having an incredible season that is still building up, as he plays in the Super Bowl next sunday. However, this is probably an even closer award race the the OROY. A lot of these rookies had very similar seasons, and the only real thing that is separating Bosa is his ability to lead his defense and be the best contender of the bunch. Players like Josh Allen and Maxx Crosby aren’t even behind and can be considered stride for stride in pace with Bosa from a pure player standpoint. But his winning ways secures his spot, not to mention he has the biggest name of the crew.
